Sale R6#5 BAKER BOY has been disappointing this preparation but he gets onto a wet track for the first time this campaign and back to 1000m might help his cause. A Noseroll gets applied again and the last time that happened he won. His best form including a placing in a 3yo open race at Moonee Valley behind Kievann & Hard Stride would be good enough to win this. Whether he can find it is the query, but at $15 I’m willing to find out.
Bathurst R7#3 KING DEROTA looks the one to beat here. He is an amazingly consistent horse who has won 5 of 15 career starts, and his worst ever effort is a 2.5L fourth. He is 2-2/4 at this distance and same at this track. Amazingly all his 5 wins he has carried this weight, all other runs have been defeats. Drawn ideally today and the top weight and favourite hasn’t run since December and has to overcome barrier 17. Surely this horse doesn’t miss a place today? $4.80 seems a decent enough price.
Sunshine Coast R6#10 BARCELONA BOUND is a former Victorian who definitely appeals in this with only 0.5kg over the minimum. He has some good formlines down South including a 2nd to Galaxy Pegasus (nearly won Caulfield R1 yesterday), and a victory over Tristram’s Sun who is now an Open class horse. That type of form should be good enough to win a Class 3 at a Sunshine Coast Sunday meeting given the low weight he has today. He has won first up before (beating Tristram’s Sun) and he gets through wet ground okay which should be the case today. In the hands of a good trainer (Kelso Wood), drawn well, and he should be suited by a fast speed. $7.50 looks good value in admittedly an open race.
