Fred Kersley and Lucy Warwick have combined to win the Westspeed Plate for two year olds at Ascot, with an impressive victory over the 1000 metres on debut.
Following a strong finish in her most recent trial, Blackwood looked to have drawn awkwardly from barrier one, given she was likely to sit back in the field, but the star apprentice navigated her beautifully to win.
“Really happy with her, she looks a good filly for the future” said Hall Of Fame member Fred Kersley after the race.
“I think she can make a good race horse if I’m just patient with her” he continued.
Regal Gleam also impressed on debut, finish second after a good run in transit, whilst the raced experienced Gold Club ran on well into third.
Blackwood won in 59.57 and by 1.25 lengths.
