Leading trainer Neville Parnham won the battle to secure a cracking colt by leading freshman sire Beneteau for $340,000 – topping day one of the Perth Magic Millions Sales.
The colt was consigned by Yarradale Stud and was keenly sought by a number of bidders before the gavel feel in favour of Parnham. “He was probably the best colt in the sale,” Parnham said.
“The Beneteaus are burning up the track so we were pretty keen to have a go at him. My client Santo Guagliardo was pretty keen on it.”
Parnham will give the horse every chance to target next January’s $2.5 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast.
“He looks well developed and a very mature colt. We will break him in and give him a little early education and plan for that race”, Parnham said.
The Beneteau colt is a half-brother to four winners including the Group Two South African star Honorine.
In an interesting result, four yearlings shared the honour of being the second top priced lots of the day selling for $160,000.
Two of the four were fillies by War Chant from Yarradale Stud. Oakland Park Stud’s Charge Forward colt from Corina Gal attracted strong interest and was knocked down to Mt Hallowell Stud. Dawson Stud’s Sepoy-Paradise Park, a half-sister to Grand Nirvana sold to Damon Gabbedy’s Belmont Bloodstock Agency.
Vin Cox, Magic Millions managing director said, “It’s been a tough day at the office.” “We’re extremely disappointed with the clearance rate.
The average has come in a little under last year which is also disappointing.”
Day two commences at 11.00am today.
