Senior jockeys Shaun O’Donnell and Troy Turner engaged in a fierce home straight duel before the former prevailed on Back To A Walk.
Corporate Larrikin (Mandy Richmond) was second and Turner’s mount Fiddler’s Elbow third.
Although Turner eventually pushed out he was kept in a tight space by O’Donnell as that jockey, back from a 10 day suspension, chased down Corporate Larrikin and Almachino.
Trainer Gino Poletti said he was pleased that Fiddler’s Elbow had been ‘ kept in’ and he noted Back To A Walk appeared to be getting harder with racing.
“Previously he never had more than four runs in a campaign but this time in he has had seven and I will probably give him one more run,” the trainer said.
Poletti said he was pleased that his charge raced in a more forward position (fourth), because he has a good finish, although he gave O’Donnell no instructions.
Back To A Walk has now won five times from 18 starts.
