Denis Borovica, general manager of racing integrity at Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA), this week reported that the sampling for banned anabolic steroids conducted in conjunction with Magic Millions at the recent Perth yearling sales have come up clean.
Under the new Australian Rule of Racing, the use of anabolic steroids in Thoroughbred horses from birth to retirement is prohibited.
RWWA Integrity officers and Veterinarians, collected samples from a total of 35 yearlings across a broad range of vendors, representing a sampling rate of approximately 10% of the yearlings presented for sale.
Interesting to note, RWWA Integrity Officers selected and tested 20 yearlings and a further 15 yearlings were sampled at the request of buyers.
All samples were analysed by Racing Analytical Services Laboratory (VIC), the official laboratory contracted by Magic Millions for testing samples from all Magic Millions sales across Australia.
