Race 1 – 1:14PM TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET PLATE (1000 METRES)
Some smart types engaged and five are genuine winning chances. Going to back in fast filly AGENT PIPPA to recapture peak form second up after setting a strong tempo over this track/distance last time and just feeling the pinch late. Expecting that run to provide her with a solid platform and the Pearce Bros stable has been trending in the right direction recently. METRO BOY dominated moderate rivals midweek and is capable of measuring up. First-upper MAGIC PLANET has brilliant formlines and will be well found with Pike on board, while PABLO’S POEM and FRIDAY FILLIES are both major players.
Suggested: 2. AGENT PIPPA win.
2. AGENT PIPPA
3. METRO BOY
1. MAGIC PLANET
4. PABLO’S POEM
Race 2 – 1:54PM RENTOKIL INITIAL MAIDEN (1400 METRES)
Nice option for first-upper STAN BY ME. Tracked him closely during his initial campaign, and he looked strong in a Belmont 3/09 trial win, covering additional ground and stretching out well late. Positive tactics expected from a low draw and with galloping room late, should take some beating. SECONDA VITA is knocking on the door and gives the impression she’ll be suited up over 1400m. Hopefully she can settle closer from an inside draw. OUQBA TED can figure back in trip with blinkers on, while PIECE D’RESISTANCE is a full brother to the champion Delicacy and must be respected on debut.
Suggested: 4. STAN BY ME each way.
4. STAN BY ME
7. SECONDA VITA
3. OUQBA TED
6. PIECE D’RESISTANCE
Race 3 – 2:34PM CROWN TOWERS HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
GREAT AGAIN will be all the rage, however, NELSON’S FLIGHT is no slouch and he can really take it up to the likely favourite. Nelson’s Flight looked like being a moral beat first up when desperate for a run in the straight, but after a gap appeared he unleashed some brilliant closing speed and managed to impressively mow down the in-form Reykjavik. Expected to roll forward and take some beating. GREAT AGAIN is the obvious as he marches through the grades. Very smart type. First-upper ELEGANT BLAST has trialled well recently and should be flashing late, while the blinkers have gone back on GET OVER IT.
Suggested: 9. NELSON’S FLIGHT 1 x 3 units.
9. NELSON’S FLIGHT
2. GREAT AGAIN
6. ELEGANT BLAST
3. GET OVER IT
Race 4 – 3:14PM FARNLEY STAKES (1400 METRES)
MAN BOOKER looks set to dominate the market and it’s very hard making a case for any of his opposition. Although (controversially) defeated, he was the standout performer of the day first up when three-deep the entire and failing to catch Rebel King by a nose in a high-rating WFA contest. Dan Morton has him back to his best and only bad luck stands in his way. DREAM LIFTER improved as expected last time and should be ready to peak third up for his new stable. YEAH DARDY has risen to new heights this prep, but the 1400m is a query, while OLIVER’S TRAVELS can improve from an inside draw.
Suggested: 1. MAN BOOKER win.
1. MAN BOOKER
2. DREAM LIFTER
7. YEAH DARDY
6. THE CELT
*Numbers amended after scratchings
Race 5 – 3:50PM PURSLOWE & CHIPPER FUNERALS HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
Wide-open first leg of the late quaddie and could be a field job, with any of these capable of winning without surprising. Thinking this could be the day for SATURIA who hasn’t had a lot of luck over this track/distance at her last two midweek outings. Suited down on 54kg with regular senior rider back on board and should get the right run in transit. HOW TO FLY had some excuses first up and is expected to elevate significantly here. Draw may prove to be a touch awkward though. First-upper LOCKROY rarely runs a bad race and maps to advantage, while PRETENTIOUS CHANT will be swooping late.
Suggested: 8. SATURIA each way.
7. HOW TO FLY
3. PRETENTIOUS CHANT
Race 6 – 4:25PM VAL & ROB DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
Perfect option for REVEILLE. Is a real box-ticker and will be well found by the market, but with clear galloping room late, it’s hard seeing her getting rolled. Was good in a high-rating race first up for Adam Durrant and attacked the line strong behind the in-form Peppijack last time. Suited up to the mile and should be able to hold up midfield from her low draw. DARK PROSPECT was huge in defeat last Saturday and has clearly returned from a break in good nick. Have plenty of time for him. KELLY’S SECRET was a strong maiden winner last time, while PERCEPTIVE MISS caught the eye last time.
Suggested: 5. REVEILLE win.
6. DARK PROSPECT
11. KELLY’S SECRET
12. PERCEPTIVE MISS
Race 7 – 5:00PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (2000 METRES)
Tricky race to assess and ended up rolling with BERGIO. Haven’t minded his three runs this prep and has been building nicely, so looking forward to a peak performance stepping up to 2000m. Has placed over 2100m and 2200m at Belmont in the past, so this trip isn’t in issue and Pike going on with 54kg, he looks set to give this a nudge. SCOONER hit the front in the Apprentices Cup before peaking late. That run will bring him further forward and should enjoy a soft run in transit. In-form/race-fit pair JUICING CARROTS and SENSE OF POWER have to rate among the main hopes also.
Suggested: 6. BERGIO each way.
3. JUICING CARROTS
1. SENSE OF POWER
Race 8 – 5:35PM ASCEND SALES TROPHIES HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
Locking MANTIME in to make it two wins in four days. This natural on-pacer has really hit his straps for new trainer Lindsey Smith, almost upsetting the flying Electric Light two weeks ago, before a dominant all-the-way midweek 1000m win on Wednesday. Apprentice Tayla Stone really suits, and he really should lead and run them ragged again. YINDI has class on his side and appears the horse most capable of matching Mantime. 49-day break is not ideal, but his talent has to be respected. First-upper PINBALL WIZARD should roll forward and box on, while SUPREME FORCE has plenty of upside.
Suggested: 2. MANTIME win.
1. PINBALL WIZARD
3. SUPREME FORCE
