RACE 1 LANCIANO PLATE 12:14 PM (1200M)
BLACK SABBATH followed up some outstanding trial form with a dominant debut victory two weeks back, setting a faster-than-average tempo out in front and crushing his opposition. The second-placed Market Ruler made the form look very good when winning by panels last Saturday and everything points towards another Black Sabbath win. First-upper KELLY’S CALLISTO is well-regarded and looked sharp in his Lark Hill 7/05 trial win, defeating subsequent winner Shapita. Clear second pick. On-pacer PRINCE OF PROMISES hasn’t done much wrong, while there is a spruik around for first-upper NEMIROFF.
Suggested: 1. BLACK SABBATH win.
1. BLACK SABBATH
5. KELLY’S CALLISTO
3. PRINCE OF PROMISES
RACE 2 BROOME INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT HANDICAP 12:54 PM (2200M)
Emerging staying three-year-old COME PLAY WITH ME followed up a competitive WA Derby showing with a most impressive Pinjarra display, clearing out to win ears pricked with form apprentice Brodie Kirby in the saddle. The astute Durrant stable has held a big opinion of this fellow for a while now, and he’s more than capable of rising in grade and knocking off some more seasoned opposition. DUDEMANBRO stays well and ran out of his skin in the two-mile WA Cup last start. This is a nice option for him. WAR KSAR has been massive in Albany recently, while up-and-comer PALACE ROGUE must be considered.
Suggested: 3. COME PLAY WITH ME 1 x 3 units.
3. COME PLAY WITH ME
4. WAR KSAR
8. PALACE ROGUE
RACE 3 PURSLOWE & CHIPPER FUNERALS HANDICAP 1:34 PM (1000M)
MASQUERADE and FINALLY FRENCH look likely to fight out the finish of this intriguing three-year-old sprint, having gone toe-to-toe over 1200m two weeks back. Masquerade did get the rub of the green on that occasion, when gifted an uninterrupted rails run, while Finally French was held up on heels at a vital stage. Still, Masquerade can elevate further second up and if the runs come, should be a touch too good again for Finally French. Expecting sharp improvement from TRULY BELONG second up, who comes out of the hot Fabergino form reference, while CHESTEN FLYER goes good and maps well.
Suggested: 2. MASQUERADE 1 x 3 units.
9. FINALLY FRENCH
4. TRULY BELONG
5. CHESTEN FLYER
RACE 4 UNITED OVERSEAS AUSTRALIA HANDICAP 2:14 PM (1600M)
MRS BROWN’S BOY is on the quick back up after a slip at the start proved very costly when hard in the market last week. Attacked the line well after settling further back than anticipated and his previous effort behind quality type Roganella also reflects the strength of his recent form. First attempt at a mile, but he can race on pace and give this a shake. Likely favourite NEW AGE is the obvious horse to beat after a slashing return to racing. May be a risk second up from the high draw though. MASS EFFECT impressed last start and maps well, while FORTY FOUR RED will lead and takes catching.
Suggested: 6. MRS BROWN’S BOY each way.
6. MRS BROWN’S BOY
8. NEW AGE
5. MASS EFFECT
1. FORTY FOUR RED
RACE 5 CAVALIER HANDICAP 2:54 PM (1800M)
Rising star MISSILE LAUNCH faces his toughest test yet stepping up to 1800m for the first time and beginning from an outside alley, however, he has the weapons necessary to get the job done. Will have tightened up nicely for this third-up outing and should be ready to produce a peak performance at this stage of his prep. Can’t wait to see how he handles this assignment. BROKER is the obvious danger and was brave when running Missile Launch to a half-length last start. Maps sweetly and will attract plenty of backing. TAXAGANO can bounce back, while ELEGANT BLAST is race fit and in form.
Suggested: 2. MISSILE LAUNCH win.
2. MISSILE LAUNCH
7. ELEGANT BLAST
RACE 6 TRAP FOR FOOLS ASCOT HORSE OF THE YEAR HANDICAP 3:30 PM (1400M)
GALAXY STAR is a major talent and gained admirers in defeat first up, running the fastest closing sectionals of the day, including 10.86 for the final 200m. Some effort under the circumstances and she looks perfectly placed stepping up to a more suitable distance. Could be anything and with any luck just wins. WAR JEUNE was hard in the market in a fast race last start and maps to enjoy a sweet run on-pace from the low draw. Stepping back up to 1400m suits. First-upper FRIARESQUE was very good in a red-hot Lark Hill 7/05 trial, but a high draw hinders, while OUTLAW PETE caught the eye first up.
Suggested: 5. GALAXY STAR win.
5. GALAXY STAR
9. WAR JEUNE
8. OUTLAW PETE
RACE 7 D’ORSOGNA FAMILY-ROMA CUP 4:10 PM (1200M)
Keen on the chances of Railway Stakes winner GREAT SHOT first up after his sizzling Lark Hill 7/05 trial, leading throughout to clock a super-slick 55.33 seconds. That performance suggests he’s in terrific order and Great Shot has posted huge ratings figures first up over the Ascot 1200m in the past. Looks ready to let rip fresh with the blinkers on. Likely leader BATTLE HERO has pretty much swept the WA sprint features in 2018 and is going to take some running down again. Star stablemate ROCK MAGIC is back home chasing back-to-back Roma Cups, while a rejuvenated RED ORA also has claims.
Suggested: 2. GREAT SHOT each way.
2. GREAT SHOT
3. BATTLE HERO
1. ROCK MAGIC
6. RED ORA
RACE 8 LA CUCINA HANDICAP 4:50 PM (1200M)
The final race of the Ascot season is a tricky one and thinking the safe play is the best way to go with likely favourite FORCEFUL. Was pretty keen on this promising three-year-old first up in midweek company last start and he managed to overcome some difficulties in running to post a smart win. 31-day break isn’t ideal, however, he still looks the horse to one to beat. ARFA CHANCE was really competitive in a fast race at Pinjarra last start and is an on-pacer with ability. First-upper RUBIA MISS has some class about her and hails from top yard, while ATLANTA BLUE can improve sharply.
Suggested: 10. FORCEFUL 1 x 3 units.
11. ARFA CHANCE
15. RUBIA MISS
2. ATLANTA BLUE
