Saturday’s Ascot winners on breeding

The star of Ascot yesterday was the brilliant War Chant mare Dainty Tess barnstorming home from last on the corner to win the $150,000 Group 3 Prince Of Wales Stakes for the second time. Her win took her prize money and bonuses to $1,077,650.  Not bad for a horse that was passed in at the Magic Millions Sales when bidding stopped at $25,000.

War Chant was a shrewd purchase for Ron Sayers’ Yarradale Stud. He entered stud in Australia in 2011 after a successful career in the United States. He is the sire of 714 progeny to race, for 491 winners (68.0%), earnings of over $57 million. He has produced 39 stakes winners and 43 stakes placegetters.

War Chant stands this season for $11,000.

Oakland Park Stud and Mogumber Park Stud look like they have a stallion in the making with Safeguard notching up his first winner with the impressive win of Specialism. The 2YO filly out of the talented race mare and now successful broodmare Clarecastle looks to have inherited her Mum’s ability.

Safeguard, the Group winning son of Champion stallion Exceed and Excel, stands in partnership for Oakland Park and Mogumber Park. He stood his first two seasons at Mogumber Park and now resides at Neville and Susan Duncan’s Oakland Park.

Safeguard looks a good bet if you are looking for a youngster that may run early. He stands for $6,000 this season.
