Into The Black Book – Northam

The OzRace Team comment on the ones to follow from the Thursday meeting at NORTHAM

Thursday 18th May 2017

“Smart debut victory from this three-year-old filly, racing in the three-wide line and drawing clear late to clock 1:02.86, a faster time than the Class 3 Handicap won by Vandemonian (1:03.09) later in the day. We liked the way she overcame some minor obstacles in running and worked right through the finish line, and she’s a horse that must be followed.” – Thoroheads

“huge effort to get the better of the favourite over the concluding stages after missing the start and having to come from near last in a sharp 33.35secs – looks a nice filly this one and will be competitive over further on that run.” – Chris Blackwell

“ran on stylishly to record a first-up fourth after beginning slowly. The mare’s sole win has been has been at Albany and she’s got only three minor places to her credit after 19 starts. Her career tally does not suggest Black Book status, but the Northam performance indicated she could be regaining form which enabled her to run second over 1700m at Belmont Park last August.” – Ernie Manning

“Raced outside the leader on a faster-than-average tempo and showed plenty of courage to fight on in the straight, before being collared right on the line by the well-backed favourite Four Letter Werd. This performance was full of merit and this three-year-old looks ready to win again within his next two starts.” – Thoroheads

“gutsy effort to stick on like it did after tracking outside leader early – has shown above average ability and Vaughn Sigley certainly has a few good ones on the go – will pay to follow.” – Chris Blackwell

“made up a lot of ground finish fourth after bungling the start of a 1300m event. The lightly-raced gelding, with a tally of one win and two places, has not raced beyond 1500m. Connections are expected to now step him up in distance and he should be one to follow.” – Ernie Manning

“Set a strong tempo out in front over 1400 metres when racing for the first time since 21 December 2016, and it was only a lack of race-fitness that saw him fade out of contention over the final 150 metres. This strong hit-out will provide him with a solid platform for the rest of his campaign and we expect him to be winning second or third up this prep.” – Thoroheads

“nice WA debut from the EX eastern stater charging home late up along the rail to grab third – has won over much further, so will be watching this one’s progression closely.” – Chris Blackwell

“ran an eye-catching fourth after being blocked for most of the home straight when he raced first-up over 1400m. Appears close to form she showed when winning Belmont Park races over 1400m and 1600m last year. The mare was subsequently placed at Ascot and she seems set for more city success.” – Ernie Manning

“Has a bit of ability this fellow and followed up his strong lead-up trial effort with a late-closing second, first up over 1100 metres. This performance was a solid way to kick off his campaign and we did appreciate the way he knuckled down late and worked right through the finish line. Look out for him winning within his next two starts.” – Thoroheads

“very impressive run from the $61 pop to sit outside leader and only weaken late into fourth – has shown promise on the provincial circuit, and likes to travel forward in its races – an all-the-way win looks eminent on today’s performance.” – Chris Blackwell
