Into The Black Book – Ascot Season Final

The OzRace Team comment on the ones to follow from the Saturday meeting at ASCOT

Saturday 20th May 2017

“made up considerable ground to finish second despite hanging in over final stages. She was switching back from 1200m to 1000m, which added merit to the performance. The two-year-old has run three Ascot seconds in a five-start career and looks set to soon break maiden status.” – Ernie Manning

“nice 2nd up performance from the Casino Prince filly scooting home from well back to finish second – three runner up cheques from five career starts suggests more than capable, and doubt will be a maiden much longer on that performance” – Chris Blackwell

“Maiden three-year-old who led and stuck on well against quality opposition at his first start since February 26. Sound effort racing out of his grade, and he looks ready to drop back to a short-course maiden and get the cash.” – Thoroheads

“Eye-catching performance at his first appearance in 16 weeks, running right through the line as the only horse to make ground from back in the field. Showed considerable potential as a three-year-old this time last season and this first-up performance suggests Justin Warwick has him back on track after a disappointing summer campaign.” – Thoroheads

“ran eye-catching first-up third over 1200m after beginning awkwardly and being buffeted. The gelding looks on the way back to form he showed last year, when winning over 1700m at Belmont Park and running third in the Belmont Classic (2200m). Shaping to win city middle distance races.” – Ernie Manning

“Certainly has his share of ability having competed well in the 2015 Railway Stakes but his career has been significantly restricted since. Worked right through the line at his first start since December 31, with his run being equal to the performance of the in-form Profit Street. Has obvious issues but if Team Williams can get on top of things this fellow can return to winning form second and/or third up this prep.” – Thoroheads

“very versatile type, but extremely hard to find – can only go race to race with this one, but it’s run today was outstanding – whether it backs up next start who knows, but best performances have been at Belmont and worth following on that fact alone.” – Chris Blackwell

“impressed by running on to finish third over 2100m after a slow start in her second race following a brief let-up. The mare is a solid stayer who has won over 1800m at Ascot and she is also a provincial 2200m winner. Should be profitable to follow during the Belmont Park winter season.” – Ernie Manning

“One of our favourite horses turned in a bottler at his first start in 12 weeks, finishing only a long neck away from the second placed Military Reign in the Roma Cup. Terrific Belmont Sprint trial by this fellow and we expect him to be hard to beat in that weight-for-age feature, as well as the upcoming Hyperion and Strickland Stakes.” – Thoroheads

“just the first up run you wanted to see from this fella – was fantastic seeing the grey dismiss it’s ‘bridesmaid’ tag last prep to win four on the trot, but it still has a Belmont hoodoo intact where it has never won – doubt this stat will last long – a must follow.” – Chris Blackwell

“was Black Booked following impressive 1st up run at Northam, and did not lose any admirers today when rattling home against quality opposition after drawing wide – another who will appreciate the Belmont straight – stays under notice.” – Chris Blackwell
